Natural Remedies For Pneumonia

If you have contracted pneumonia and you want to use natural treatments to help get rid of the disease, there are some effective methods that you can try. But first consult your doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment, then use home remedies as an adjunct treatment. Don’t take chances with pneumonia, because even though it is usually a mild condition that can be cleared up in two or three weeks, there are many cases that are serious and can prove life-threatening or even fatal.

These are some of the better known home remedies:

Garlic

Used for many ailments, garlic is a natural antimicrobial treatment that can help fight bacteria, fungi and viruses. It increases the body’s ability to clear mucous out of the lungs and chest, and helps lower body temperature.

One way of using garlic is crush a few cloves and marinate them in a mixt of equal parts lemon juice and honey. Take 2-3 tablespoons of the mixture three or four times daily. You can also rub garlic juice or paste directly on your chest, but don’t try this unless you know you have a high tolerance to the strong smell of garlic.

Fresh Vegetable Juice

Fresh juices like spinach, carrot, parsnip and beet boost your immune system and dissolve mucous. Parsnip juice helps the healing process and is good for your bronchial system and lungs.

Mix two parts spinach juice to one part carrot juice and drink daily. Or combine three parts carrot juice to one part each of cucumber and beet juice. One cup of pure parsnip juice daily is also recommended.

Cayenne Pepper

Cayenne is an excellent source of beta-carotene, which helps develop healthy mucous membranes. It contains capsaicin (also an effective pain reliever) which activates the release of mucous from the lungs.

Mix some lemon juice and a dash of cayenne pepper in an eight-ounce glass of water. You can mix cayenne pepper in carrot juice or drink water with lemon juice and cayenne pepper in it several times daily.

Fenugreek Seeds

Fenugreek helps break up lung congestion and induces sweating, which helps the body reduce fever and expel toxins.

Boil one teaspoon of fenugreek seeds with two cups of water. Strain and drink four cups of the tea daily.

Combine a teaspoon of fenugreek seeds, a teaspoon of ginger, one crushed garlic clove and a dash of cayenne pepper and steep in a cup of hot water for about five minutes. Strain and add the juice of half a lemon and some honey to the mixture and drink the tea a few times a day.

Steam

Inhaling steam is good for the lungs because it loosens the congestion and relieves coughing. Steam helps the body fight infection as well as improving breathing.

Fill a pot halfway with water and then add a few drops of lavender or eucalyptus oil; lemon, tee tree oil and camphor oil can also be used. Bring the water to a boil and lean over it with your head draped in a towel to keep the steam directed at you. Inhale this for a few minutes. You can also make sure to breathe in the steam when you are showering.
